This accessible cottage accommodates up to five guests in three bedrooms (an en-suite double room and cosy single room upstairs, and a wheelchair-friendly twin room – with ensuite wet room, featuring grab rails and a shower seat – downstairs). Elsewhere, there’s a full-size kitchen, lounge and dining area, whilst outside you’ll find a self-contained patio area to relax in with private hot tub.
Up to three well-behaved dogs (depending on size) are also welcome at no extra cost and will enjoy the many country walks that can be taken from outside the farm gate.
Although you’ll find Castle Farm in the north of Shropshire, the medieval county town of Shrewsbury (22 miles) and the World Heritage Site at Ironbridge (35 miles) are both within an easy hour’s drive.
However, being just a mile from the Welsh border, we’re ideally situated for exploring North Wales and, a little further afield, the beautiful county of Cheshire too (the stunning Roman city of Chester is only 25 miles away).with its World Famous Zoo.
On your doorstep, though, is Ellesmere (5 miles away), the heart of what is often referred to as the Shropshire Lake District because of its nine lakes, known as ‘meres’. The most accessible and the largest (at 46 hectares) is simply known as The Mere, and is just a short walk from Ellesmere town centre (there’s also parking close to the water’s edge). If that’s not enough water for you, then there’s also the 46-mile Llangollen Canal, said to be the most beautiful canal in the country!
There are also several National Trust properties and numerous other family attractions and activities within easy driving distance.
There is an additional two-bedroom cottage that adjoins Woodpecker Cottage called Nuthatch Cottage. Although this cottage is not wheelchair accessible, it does have a downstairs bedroom and can be let together with Woodpecker Cottage to accommodate larger families.
