Blue Tit Cottage Mellwaters Barn Cottages

Description

Blue Tit Cottage at Mellwaters Barn Cottages has been designed with its surroundings in mind. The bedrooms are situated downstairs and an exceptionally spacious living area upstairs with a beautiful picture window so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the wonderful views into the valley below.

The property has parking directly outside the front door and level access.  Downstairs there are two bedrooms that can be made up with either double or twin beds subject to personal preference and there will be a double profiling bed from March onwards.

There is also a large wet room with roll in shower, hand-held shower attachment (shower chair available on request), WC with drop down handrails and a wall hung wash basin. Equipment hire is free of charge at the Cottage.

The property has a Pollock through floor lift that takes you from the downstairs bedroom area to the upstairs open plan living, kitchen and dining area. the lift takes wheelchairs but there is also a pull down seat in the lift too. Maximum weight 255kg (40st).

The upstairs dining area comfortably accommodates at least 6 people, whilst the sitting area has a large settee plus 2 arm chairs, widescreen TV and DVD player. The is also a well-equipped kitchen with wheel-under sink and hob.  The oven is at wheelchair height. There is also an additional cloakroom upstairs.

Blue Tit Cottage is one of four Cottages at Mellwaters Barn Cottages. Blue Tit cottage connects to Wren cottage via an interconnecting door just off of the living area of Blue Tit cottage next to the upstairs cloaks. This takes you into the upstairs corridor of Wren cottage where the bedroom and en-suite bathroom are.

The cottages were converted from the old granary at East Mellwaters Farm, a 345 acre natural grassland farm believed to have been built on the site of a Roman settlement. There are two main purpose built footpaths on the farm which are maintained for wheelchairs and buggy’s. As this is a working sheep farm occasionally the paths can get dirty, however the hosts are happy to provide a hose and brush to clean down chairs and wheels.

Situated near Barnard Castle, this is the perfect base from which to visit such places as, Barnard Castle, Bowes museum, Raby Castle, Locomotion railway museum and multiple locations where you can hire mobility scooters in the north Pennines and North Yorkshire. Reviews
“Beautiful place. The sunrises are something special. Rooms always spotlessly clean. We’ve been coming here for 13/14 yrs that’s how much we like it here. Ideally situated for trips to east coast and also 1hr from lake district.”
“I would highly recommend these cottages for people with disabilities. All the equipment we required for our stay was provided and made our stay much easier. The cottage was clean and big enough for the family and the views were spectacular. We will definitely recommend to our friends.”
“This place is fantastic for me as a carer and a wife who has ms from entering the place little touches cereals jam bread butter milk to start you off – what a welcome. The place is well positioned for lakes and Richmond and the other areas. We have been here twice in the last month so that says it all. The reason for a 4 and not a 5 is because ideally, I would like a ceiling hoist in the bedroom. But overall definitely one of best true mobility accommodations going.”
