The parents of Charlie Gard will launch The Charlie Gard Foundation on 1 June with the £1.3 million raised in his name. Charlie died in July last year, a week before his first birthday due to the rare genetic condition Mitochondrial DNA Depletion Syndrome. The Foundation aims to raise awareness of the condition, invest in world-class research into viable treatments, and will work collaboratively with other charities to support families whose lives have been touched by the disease. The Foundation shares our belief in the importance of memory making and we are pleased to announce that it has pledged funding to The Sandcastle Trust to enable us to provide fun and respite to even more families that have been affected by this cruel rare genetic condition.
