Perched above the peaceful village of Loulé in Portugal’s beautiful Algarve, Ourico do Mar is a stylish and fully wheelchair accessible villa, designed to ensure every guest — whatever their needs — can enjoy a relaxing and memorable stay.

Step inside and you’ll find light-filled, open-plan living spaces with step-free access throughout, wide doorways, lowered switches, and raised sockets, allowing wheelchair users to move around with ease. The spacious lounge and dining area offer a welcoming place to unwind, while large doors lead out onto an enclosed terrace with spectacular 180º rural views stretching all the way to the sea.

The villa sleeps six guests across three en-suite bedrooms. Two of these rooms have been fully adapted for wheelchair accessibility. Each offers generous space around the beds — including the option of electric profiling high-low beds with anti-decubitus mattresses — to ensure maximum comfort and convenience. Both accessible bathrooms feature roll-in showers, non-slip flooring, fold-down shower chairs, grab rails, wheel-under washbasins, and raised toilet seats, so every aspect of your stay is designed with thoughtful, practical support in mind.

Outside, the villa’s private swimming pool (heated from May to October) is the perfect place to cool off under the Algarve sun. The pool has level surroundings and is equipped with a hoist to ensure safe and easy access for all guests. A range of additional accessible equipment is available during your stay, including a mobile hoist, tilting and static shower chairs.

The villa’s peaceful, rural setting is ideal for relaxation, while a café, small shop, and supermarket are all just a short drive away. The traditional town of Loulé — known for its daily covered market, shops, and excellent restaurants — is nearby, and the beaches and attractions of the Algarve are easily reached. For those arriving by air, Faro Airport is just 20 minutes away and wheelchair-accessible transfers can be arranged.

"The hosts could not have been more helpful or welcoming and provided transfers from and back to the airport. The villa is located in a very convenient spot to reach all the local amenities, shops and tourist spots quickly. The villa is spotlessly clean with all the equipment needed to make our holiday 'easy' including two accessible wet rooms. Our son, a full time wheelchair user was able to use the poolside hoist for a daily swim and slept well in a comfortable hi-lo profiling bed. Use of the WAV vehicle was a tremendous bonus."

It was fully accessible and with the car hire that was perfect for the wheel chair this enabled my father to have as independent a holiday as possible. The hosts couldn't have been kinder with airport pick ups and so response to every question we had.
