Major’s Lodge at Watatunga Wildlife Reserve

Description

Major’s Lodge is a delightful single-story, accessible, safari lodge overlooking the grassy expanses and lakes of Watatunga Wildlife Reserve. With a stunning vista over grazing herds of exotic deer and antelope species, Major’s Lodge is a single storey, fully accessible property that sleeps up to eight people and has parking for six cars.

The property has a well equipped kitchen with built-in electric double oven, electric hob, microwave oven, fridge, freezer and dishwasher.  The pretty sitting room has a large picture window overlooking the garden and reserve beyond, comfortable seating, a fireplace with open fire and a smart TV.  The property’s dining room comfortably seats all guests and there is a light-filled conservatory with corner seating and doors opening onto the large decked area.

There are four spacious bedrooms, two of which are wheelchair accessible. An Invacare Medley Ergo bed is available on request.

Major’s Lodge has two bathrooms – the first has a bath with over-bath shower, washbasin and WC and the second is an accessible wet room with mains shower, basin and WC, extra handrails fitted to the wall and non-slip flooring.

There is a large fully enclosed wilderness garden, secure for children and with deep borders planted to attract butterflies and supply winter seed for birds with stunning views to the wildlife reserve. A raised decked seating area leads directly from the lodge; wheelchair friendly with ramp down to the lawn and gate giving added security for youngsters. You’ll have exclusive access to a state-of-the-art bird hide, situated just a minute’s walk from the lodge, complete with an entrance ramp.

After a thorough safety briefing and a complimentary guided tour of the reserve, you will be handed the keys to your own electric buggies to explore the reserve as you wish, including a wheelchair accessible buggy. The wheelchair accessible buggy is a bespoke piece of kit that has been adapted from a standard 6-seater electric buggy; the wheelbase has been extended to accommodate a wheelchair user, with 4 anchor points to secure passengers safely and original bench seats intact for 6 additional guests, including the driver, to ride along. Loading wheelchairs into the buggy is done so via the buggy’s integrated side ramp, being able to bear the weight of most electric and manual wheelchairs. If you would like additional information or are unsure if your wheelchair will fit, please get in contact with the team at office@watatunga.co.uk.

In addition, for special occasions if you would like to organise an ‘al-fresco’ dinner by the Watatunga lakeside, the owner’s offer catering in their private BBQ hut by the lake, the perfect location to watch the sun go down in any season.
