Celebrating Our Super Sandcastle Siblings!πŸ’–

This National Siblings Day (10th April), we were thrilled to honour some truly incredible brothers and sisters who go above and beyond for their siblings living with rare genetic conditions. Each nomination told the story of an extraordinary brother or sister walking alongside a sibling living with a rare genetic condition β€” and doing so with love, compassion, resilience and courage, supporting their families in ways that inspire us all. We received so many heartfelt nominations, and we’re delighted to introduce the eight fantastic winners β€” each receiving a well-deserved Β£50 cinema gift card as a small thank you for the huge difference they make.

🌟 Cameron (age 12) Cameron is twin brother to Hayden, who lives with Sotos Syndrome. As a young carer, Cameron has learned to help with Hayden’s medical needs and is always by his side offering reassurance, support, and shared joy β€” especially over their favourite game, Yu-Gi-Oh!

🌟 Eva (age 10) Eva is big sister to Joshy, who was born with SCID, a genetic primary immune deficiency. At just 5 years old, Eva selflessly donated bone marrow to save her brother’s life. Since then, she has been a constant source of courage and support through his ongoing treatments and challenges, showing incredible strength and love.

🌟 Felix (age 12) Felix has been a loving big brother to Imogen, who lives with 3p25 deletion syndrome, since he was just 3. His patience, joy in caring for her, and commitment to inclusion show maturity and kindness beyond his years.

🌟 Isabelle (age 10) Isabelle is the protective and caring big sister to Rupert, who lives with Haemophilia and complex medical needs. From writing him storybooks to ease his worries to bringing fun to hospital stays, Isabelle is a constant source of comfort, fun, and strength for her brother.

🌟 Lewis (age 20) Big brother Lewis has supported his little sister Lilia, who lives with MCADD, since she was born. From helping care for her as a baby to bringing joy and encouragement after long hospital stays, Lewis continues to be a rock for his sister and family.

🌟 Marnie (age 7) Marnie is a remarkable big sister to twin brothers Raffy and Siddy, who live with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1. From adapting games so they can join in, to helping with equipment and care, Marnie’s devotion and pride in her brothers are truly heartwarming.

🌟 Paisley (age 8) Paisley is a kind and devoted little sister to Tomas, who lives with Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease. She makes sure Tomas is always included in games, helps with his care, and thoughtfully adjusts her plans so he never feels left out. Her empathy and pride in her brother shine through in everything she does.

🌟 Ryder (age 7) Ryder is a loving big brother to Devon, who lives with Menke-Hennekam Syndrome 1 and is deaf-blind. He shows immense understanding and care, from cuddling her and stroking her hair to proudly pushing her wheelchair on family outings. His dedication and kindness make him a truly special sibling.

πŸ’« Thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate a Super Sandcastle Sibling. These siblings truly are superheroes, and we’re proud to celebrate them.
