Description

Situated in 20 acres of mixed woodland, Merklands Wood luxury lodges are a paradise for lovers of wildlife and nature. Two dog friendly properties each sleeping up to six plus an infant. With Hot Tubs and Log burning stoves.  Perfectly located for exploring the beautiful Scottish Borders and as a base for exploring further afield; Edinburgh, Glasgow, Loch Lomond, the West Coast or the Highlands.

Architect designed and wheelchair accessible, Alder and Aspen lodges were completed in the early part of 2021.

The lodges are identical inside and out save that Aspen is slightly higher up the hill and enjoys better views over the hills, whilst Alder is more immersed in the woodland and has a more private and secluded hot tub and veranda.

Each of the luxury lodges comfortably sleeps 6 plus an infant in 3 luxurious bedrooms.

The main suite has a super king sized bed, flat screen smart TV and en suite with a bathroom/shower room (small shallow step into shower).  A second, spacious bedroom has a super king sized bed and the third bedroom is a twin room.  There is also a separate shower room.

Both Alder and Aspen lodges are wheelchair accessible with a level interior, fully fitted kitchen and an open-plan dining/sitting room space room set around the log burning stove which provides for year-round comfort and you can enjoy an end of the day relaxing dip in the hot tub on the veranda.

Guests have access to a private sports and games field to keep dogs, children and adults entertained. Activities include, outdoor table tennis, outdoor table football, swingball, football goals, super curved bowl trampoline and agility equipment for dogs. There is also a giant chess and draught set in the woods.

The local area provides wonderful walking and cycling opportunities and the visitscotland.com website lists 752 things to see or do within 30 miles of the lodges including Edinburgh Castle, New Lanark Village World Heritage Site and the Biggar Puppet Theatre to name a few!

Reviews
"Fabulous lodge. Had absolutely everything we could have needed. It was ideal for our family trip with young kids but would also have been perfect for older family, a few couples or a friends trip. Loads to do in the local area, you can walk for hours around the lodges or do absolutely nothing!"
"We have just had a 3 night break in Alder Lodge. The standard of the lodge was top class, very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The extras in the cabin were amazing! Welcome basket, homemade bread, fresh eggs and milk, lovely individual soaps and shampoo bars to name few, even the dog got a gift bag! There is a field which is safe environment with great activities for kids, big kids and pets. There are also lots of well kept tracks through the woods to spot the wildlife, we saw a few deer. A lovely spot to relax and soak in the hot tub. We will be back."
"The lodge is immaculate and has everything you need plus the added bonus of a hot tub on a lovely covered deck that is lit up at night with fairy lights. The location was great, lots of lovely walks and places to visit. There is a dog agility course attached to the lodge, a trampoline and outdoor games for kids. We got to meet the owners dog Lizzie and her 2 new pups and have a cuddle. They also let our son feed their chickens and showed us the wild cats which they keep as part of their wildlife sanctuary. It was really interesting listening to them talking about how they are trying to protect these animals. Overall a special place which we would love to return to."
